November Club Night
We were given a short talk and demonstration of the internal workings of a Stirling engine by Keith Murray. This amazing piece of technology was invented and patented in 1816 by Dr Robert Stirling. It was his answer for trying to find a safer power source than the steam engines of the day, the boilers of which were prone to explode! The Stirling engine is a closed cycle, it contains a fixed mass of gas and has no valves. It cycles through four main processes: cooling, compression, heating and expansion. This is accomplished by moving the gas back and forth between hot and cold heat-exchangers. It was interesting to see Keith's working model which provoked much discussion. Glyn Chambers also provided us with a plethora of motorcycling related, and other, objects to identify as a quiz. Much nattering also took place.November Wrinkly Run
Our last midweek run of the year. Luckily the recent bad weather abated and a enjoyable if slightly chilly run took place in bright sunshine with about 40 riders taking part. It was good to see Geoff Dean and his wife back up our way from the Isle of White with us on the run. The Brigdewater Arms provided suitable sustenance and a welcome real fire to warm up by. Next month there wil be a coffee morning at the Whitehill Centre Chesham.
Quiz Night
A good turnout considering the weather. The quiz ably conducted by Glyn Chambers provided its usual mix of knowledge, ignorance and downright belligerance. It was won by the Cyclemotor Section who deserve our congratulations. Thanks go to Richard Martin and his band of helpers for the catering.
New Departure Point Required
For those of you lucky, or idle, enough to come on our Mid-week Wrinkly runs you will have noted that the White Hill Centre Car Park is becoming very packed. It would be good to have more space and to that end it has been decided to investigate an alternative. It needs to be close to Chesham have hard standing for the bikes and access to toilets. A sports club or assembly rooms have been suggested and we would be prepared to pay a small fee for the privilege. Anyone with any ideas should contact Mike Vangucci or Norman Kelly.
